Abstract

Ultraviolet radiation is electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths between 100 and 400 nm. In small amounts, ultraviolet radiation is beneficial for health and plays an essential role in the production of vitamin D. However, excessive exposure to them is related to different types of skin cancer, accelerated aging of the skin, cataracts and other eye diseases. The present study presents the results of the analysis of the total ultraviolet radiation type B, measured in the station of San Lorenzo, Paraguay and operated by the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences of the National University of Asunción. The study period is from June 1996 to June 1998. The results of the study show that the minimum values of type B radiation is in the winter, reaching monthly average value of 182 mW/m2 in June, and the maximum values are recorded in the summer reaching average monthly value of up to 1029 mW/m2 in January.
