Similarity Detection

Once the formal requirements have been met, the submitted material will be processed through our similarity detection (anti-plagiarism) platform. If the similarity index exceeds 5%, the manuscript will be returned to the corresponding author for revision.

After all formal requirements have been fulfilled, the article will be sent to peer reviewers for evaluation. Reviewers may issue recommendations for revisions, which will be communicated to the corresponding author, or, where applicable, may recommend the rejection of the manuscript. All decisions will be duly communicated to the corresponding author.

Processing Time

The total processing time of an article depends on both endogenous and exogenous factors, including: position in the submission queue, compliance with formal requirements, duration of peer review, time required for revisions, editorial editing timelines, among others. Consequently, the processing period may vary for each article, typically ranging from six to twelve months.

Copyright Transfer

Authors transfer to the RSCPY the ownership of the copyright necessary for the publication and dissemination of their articles in any form or medium. However, if authors wish to publish their work in other scientific venues, they must include a note indicating the corresponding publication details of the article as it appeared in the Revista de la Sociedad Científica del Paraguay.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to confirm that their submission complies with all of the following items. Submissions that do not meet these guidelines will be returned to the authors.

Failure to comply with any of these points will result in an automatic “Technical Rejection”, which will delay the evaluation of your work. Please review each item carefully before finalizing your submission.

Editorials

The editorial is a short article that expresses the journal’s official position on a topic of current interest, ethics, or science policy. Unlike other types of articles, it functions as the journal’s institutional voice. It normally appears in the opening pages of each issue and is written by the Editor‑in‑Chief or by members of the Editorial Board.

Letters to the editor

Letters to the Editor are a fundamental section of scientific journals, allowing for direct dialogue between readers (usually other scientists) and the authors of published articles or the editorial team. They can be understood as the journal’s “forum for debate.” Unlike other types of articles, they are typically very short and direct texts.

Original Articles

An original scientific article is the fundamental pillar of scholarly communication. It is a written report that communicates, for the first time, the results of new and original research conducted by one or more authors.
Unlike a news piece or an opinion essay, this type of document must follow strict methodological rigor so that other scientists can validate, replicate, or refute its findings.

Review Articles

A review article does not present new or original results; instead, it compiles, analyzes, and synthesizes previously published information on a specific topic. Its main purpose is to provide a comprehensive and up‑to‑date overview of the state of the art—that is, what is currently known—on a given subject, allowing other researchers or professionals to get up to speed without having to read hundreds of individual studies.

Opinion Articles

An opinion article (also referred to as a commentary, perspective, or viewpoint) is a text in which one or more experts express their personal, well‑reasoned position on a topic relevant to the scientific community. Unlike original research articles, it does not present new experiments. Its value lies in interpretation, critical analysis, or the proposal of new ideas based on existing knowledge.

Short Notes

A short note (also referred to as a short communication or brief report) is a scientific publication format designed to disseminate findings quickly and concisely.
Unlike a full‑length original article, a short note focuses on a specific discovery, a preliminary advance, or a particular observation that—due to its importance or novelty—should be shared with the scientific community without waiting for a large‑scale study to be completed.

Special Contributions

Special contributions are articles requested or accepted by the Editorial Committee that, due to their nature, do not fit within traditional categories (such as original research articles or review articles), yet provide exceptional academic or technical value to the journal.
Unlike opinion articles, they are usually more extensive and technical, and often represent the work of scientific societies, expert groups, or governmental institutions.

Case Studies

A case study (or case report) is a scientific article that provides a detailed and in‑depth description of one or a few specific examples of a phenomenon. In medicine, it typically refers to a patient with a rare disease or an unusual presentation; in other fields, it may involve the analysis of an organization, an event, or a unique social situation. Unlike population‑based studies that seek generalizable laws, the case study aims to understand “the exception to the rule” or emerging phenomena that cannot yet be examined on a large scale.
