About the Journal
History
The Revista de la Sociedad Científica del Paraguay is a peer‑reviewed scientific journal founded in 1921 by Dr. Andrés Barbero. It is the oldest active scientific journal in Paraguay. Over its century‑long history, its periodicity was occasionally affected by major historical events, including the Chaco War and the Second World War.
The journal’s publication was regularized in the 1960s and continued consistently through the 1980s (“second era”). The following three decades constitute the “third era.” In 2016, the journal entered its “fourth era” with the transition to an electronic format and global online dissemination.
The “fifth era” began in 2024, marked by alignment with national and international editorial standards and a complete redesign of its visual identity. Beginning in 2026, the journal adopts a continuous publication model.

Peer Review Process
All submissions undergo an initial editorial screening to assess relevance, scientific merit, adherence to the journal’s scope, and compliance with author guidelines.
Manuscripts that pass this stage are evaluated through a double‑blind peer review process. Each submission is reviewed by two experts in the field, following the Peer Reviewer Manual. Reviewers must declare the absence of conflicts of interest; failure to do so may result in removal from the reviewer database.
Reviewers provide constructive, objective, and confidential evaluations. The Editor‑in‑Chief and/or responsible Associate Editor makes the final decision regarding acceptance, revision, or rejection. All editorial decisions are final and communicated to the corresponding author.
Publication Frequency
As of January 2026, the journal operates under a continuous publication model, whereby articles are published immediately upon acceptance and completion of the final editorial process.
